"Vivai delle Commande", was officially established in 1994, but our passion for peonies dates back to some years earlier. The first bulk of American tree and herbaceous peonies was imported from the United States in 1980. After growing these plants for fourteen years and gaining quiet a lot experience in propagation, we established a nursery specialized in peonies. The first American varieties, which have now reached a considerable size, are used as mother plants and they have been joined by many other varieties from all over the world. Currently, our collection has about a hundred varieties, between tree and herbaceous, but not all of them are on sale yet. In 1997, while traveling around the United States in search of new varieties of Peonies, we fell in love with hostas. Because in Italy there are no nurseries specialized in these beautiful and versatile shadowing plants, we decided to cultivate them as well. The nursery has an outstanding collection of American hybrids of Paeonia lutea and we are trying to spread in Italy the wonderful varieties created by A.P. Saunders and Nassos Daphnis. All the plants are grown on site and are accurately classified; the collection is frequently updated with the best new varieties created by hybridators. The nursery can be visited on appointment.
